Whether you’re looking to test your speed, or you just want to go for a leisurely ride, the San Luis Rey River Trail is a great place to take your bike. This 7.2-mile trail, situated along the banks of the San Luis Rey River, is separate from motorized traffic and open to both cyclists and pedestrians. Free of stop signs and traffic lights, this trail is the perfect place for an uninterrupted ride or walk near Oceanside.
Dogs are welcome on the San Luis Rey River Trail. It's requested that owners keep their pets on a leash six feet or shorter and pick up any waste their four-legged friends leave behind. The west end of the trail is only a short walk from the Oceanside Transit Center, making it easy to catch public transportation home at the end of your ride. Trail use is suggested during daytime hours only, as the trail is not lighted.
